Notes:
I am in Edmonton, Alberta. These plants are suddenly all over my garden. I have never seen them before. Thus far, they have no flowers or seed heads. They have a spiral layered pattern to their leaves and stem.

Without flowers to be certain, for now I’m speculating this might be a species in the Tragopogon (salsify)? When it flowers and you still don’t know, please resubmit with photo of opened flowers.
