Notes:
We live by the river in Fulton County, and this shrub started growing in our shady yard. It has been a bit haphazardly landscaped by several different owners – not sure if this is a weed or something someone once planted. All new growth since the spring – it wasnÕt there in the winter. Any ideas?

Thanks Laura. WeÕll keep an eye on it, havenÕt seen any flowers yet. The undersides if the leaves are pale as in the link you posted. Will post again when it flowers!

It’s hard to tell without flowers. For now I could only speculate that maybe the American persimmon (Diospyro virginiana)? Perhaps as this grows more mature, please give us an update. Check out this included link for American persimmon & tips to help identify the species if yours is the one . Best wishes! https://www.carolinanature.com/trees/divi.html
