Notes:
I received a Poinsettia plant for a Christmas gift. A few weeks later, a sprout emerged. I thought that it might be a seed from the Poinsettia. However, this plant is currently over 12 inches tall. I live in Nevada, so we don’t have a huge variety of native plants. The Poinsettia has always been in the house. Any ideas?

Hi Donna, appreciate the feedback. Flowers & fruits could be helpful sometimes even if their botanical details are not visible. From their colors, sizes & shapes, we perhaps could narrow down their genera. My wild guess on this plant is maybe a species in the willowherb (Epilobium)? Species in epilobium have similar traits, i.e. the opposite leaves, branches, & flowers buds, etc… Again, I’m only guessing. Check out these included links for one of the species, the American/fringed willowherb (E. ciliatum) and see if you have a match. I don’t think it needs a trellis, it might grow more erect with some sun. If this isn’t a match. Please give us photos of flowers & fruits. Click on images to enlarge. Best wishes to you Donna! The flowers are not much bigger than the photo shows. Very tiny, pinkish in color. Can you give me your best guess on what this plant is? Does it need a trellis? It has grown another two inches in less than a week. I will probably need to transplant it to a bigger pot. Thank you for any help you can give me. Donna.

I have some ideas, but want to have a a confirmed ID with the flowers. And it appears there some flower buds on the plant (?). It would be faster if we have the opened flowers. Please resubmit with flowers photo. Thank you & best wishes! On the side note, sometime potted plants have ‘surprise’ gift/weed plants that self sown before they arrive in your home.
