Please show us more of the plant i.e. side view of the whole plant, back of the leaves & closeup of the trunk. With out flowers to help with the ID, these detail could help us to tell whether this a tree, shrub or herbaceous type for you. For now I could only speculate that there are couple of plants that have similar leaves shape. One is a species or cultivar of nettlespurge/physic nut of the Jatropha genus, the other is flame tree species (Brachychiton acerifolius). Again without flowers, this is only a guess. Check out these links for the Jatropha integerrima & B. acerifolius. Best wishes! https://www.invasive.org/browse/subthumb.cfm?sub=43735&fam=190
