Notes:
I’m sorry that I can’t give much info on this plant. A friend decided she didn’t need it and said this tree could go home with me!? I have cut it back so I could get into my car but one of the pics shows a close up to the leaves. I would love an ID before I put it in the ground.

Thank you for your response. I have 2 of the grancy graybeards in my yard. I will check out the Chinese Fringe at the site you mentioned. Thanks again.

Maybe a type of fringe tree (Chionanthus). Check it out and see if you have amatch. If this is fringe tree, I can’t tell if this is US native, grancy graybeard (C. virginiana) or the Chinese fringe tree (C. retusus). I’m leaning toward the later. Check out these included links for more information, click on images to enlarge. According to sources , flowers blooms on male or female trees. although some time both can be on the same tree. The males blossoms are more showy, but there is no telling which is which with out the flowers. Also only female tree bears fruits. When it blooms and if it isn’t Chionanthus, make new post with flowers photo. Best wishes! http://www.hort.uconn.edu/plants/detail.php?pid=111
