Notes:
This volunteer came up last year and decided it was interesting enough to give it a chance to see what it might be… I still have no idea. The leaves are smooth, dark green, no gloss on established leaves, but new growth is glossy, and the underside is a powdery tan/brown (try searching all of that on google). I’m leaning twords a fruit or nut tree, but still have no idea.

**Update** It has finally flowered!! Without much doubt, we are certain that it’s a Paw Paw. It’s covered in small deep Maroon flowers and some look like they have pollinated into tiny little green nodes. I’m wondering if I could be so lucky as to expect fruit without knowing if there’s another variety in the area for cross pollination?

This must be some variety of Crepe Myrtle that I am not familiar with, the leaves alone are 2 to 3 times larger than any Myrtle I have seen before or since it sprouted 2 1/2 years ago. Th plant is still only 20″ tall but the leaves are between 5″ and 6″ long. I’ll continue to grow this next to my Chestnut Tree, but I am 99% certain it’s not Crepe Myrtle.

I have a plant that came up that also looks like that but the edges of the leaves are serrated ? It’s like a small tree and nobody knows what it is. I even sent a picture to the local Ag guy and someone at FSU. It’s doesn’t look like my crepe myrtle. The leaves on the Crepe Myrtle are smaller and rounder.
