Live in Virginia, found this growing in our flower bed. Has a very long, straight root. Not certain if it’s a young tree or shrub?? Found it growing near a crepe myrtle tree

Thanks. For some reason, my wife said the same thing. We did not plant any peonies but dug up the bed in the fall and planted a number of tulips. Maybe digging up the bed unearthed an older plant or some root stock? I guess we’ll find out if/when it blooms.
