Thank you for helping solve this riddle. * I have posted additional pictures on 11/28/17. The title of that post is also “Fruit Identification, Part 2…) * The fruit was very hard, perhaps not ripened yet due to our short season for fruit. It is a bit bitter and somewhat like an apple. Thank you!

Sorry for the slow reply. I was not properly subscribed to the thread. The tree is in Atlanta, off LaVista Road. I do not have pix of the tree at the moment, but will upload soon. The fruit is very hard, but perhaps not ripened in our shorter fruit growing season. It is somewhat bitter, somewhat apple-like. THANK YOU everyone for helping us figure out this mystery.
