Notes:
shrub is about 3 ft high – red berries turn dark blue when fully ripe. Did not hazard a taste!

Hello Laura. Thank you very much for the info. I would say that your two websites pretty much confirm that it is indeed baneberry. I often wondered why birds or other wildlife totally ignored the beautiful berries. Smart!

I’m speculating only, maybe something in the baneberrry of the Actea genus (?). And if this is baneberry, with out its flowers to help narrow down, I’m not able to tell which species this is. Also If this is baneberry according to sources all parts of plants are poisonous For now check out the link below for the red baneberry’s flowers images and see if you have a match.
