I observed the marking on the back in Feb. or March of this year. It is located in East Cobb county. Any idea what is is or what caused it? Will it hurt the tree.

I can’t tell what’s going on with from the photo, but Parrotia persica bark has attractive mottled look. The link below has a good write up about the bark’s characteristic.
