Notes:
This tree had been covered in ivy when we moved into this house seven years ago. It is approximately 25 feet tall. WeÕve cut and removed most of the ivy, and as much of the vines as possible. I noticed the beautiful bark of this tree and am very curious what type of tree it is.

The bark is indeed beautiful, even with no blooms it is a great specimen to have. If this is crape myrtle, link below with proper pruning tip. I suggest you should take slow approach and see how it responds to being ‘rescued’ from the ivy for now. The second link is from the guru himself with why crape myrtle not blooming. Thank you! We were thinking Crepe Myrtle, but never noticed the flowers, so we were unsure. Should we try to prune it this winter, or let it be? It’s quite beautiful, but the ivy almost killed it, which could be why there were no flowers.

With out its flowers, I could only speculating for now. Perhaps a tall cultivar of the crape myrtle group (Lagerstroemia)? When it blooms and you still don’t know, make new post with flowers photos.
