Grows towards sunlight, within a year almost tripled in size, small plant – maybe 4 inches tall-when received as a gift from a friend. I have had it by a well lit window entire duration-I have no idea what it is- or how big it will grow and if it can stay outside?

Maybe a cultivar of the succulent genus called Peperomia. This looks like Felted Pepperface/ Felted Peperomia (Peperomia incana). It is a tropical and needed to be bringing indoor in the winter. Link below can help you further. Best wishes! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/167899/
