Notes:
1st pic looks a bit like Scotchbroom but not as tall. Red flower 2nd pic is a low spreading ground shrub. Leaves are very brittle

It difficult to tell from the distance. If you are able, closer images may help. For the second image you mentioned that the leaves are brittle… was the image taken in the fall as the plant is going dormant? They don’t look like fresh leaves. Either way, a wild guess, the stems/leaves remind my of a climbing hydrangea, and sometimes small plants can look like that if they have not had a chance to climb yet.
