Thanks for these photos Sheryl! There are two native plant genera with similar looking leaves like yours, one is of the Tupelo (Nyssa genus species include N. aquatica, N. biflora, N. ogeche and N. sylvatica) and the other is pawpaw (Asimina genus species include A. triloba and dwarf pawpaw A. parviflora). I’m guessing N. sylvatica or A. parviflora .I’m leaning toward N. sylvatica(?) Sorry, I can’t get closer to its ID without flowers. I’m include the link below to help you further.
