Thanks for your reply. Apparently this plant is similar to some native plants. It says: Nepalese browntop can also be confused with dicot species in the genus Polygonum. Because there are native species that appear similar, correct identification is necessary before implementing control measures.

I have a fully shaded area on one side of my house that I’ve been unable to get any grass to grow in. I need some cover to stop the soil from washing and alleviate the mud problem. I thought it would be cool you use something native. I noticed large areas of the plant pictured while out hiking in Red Top Mountain state park. Low and behold, when I got back home I realized I have a good bit already growing on my lot. What is it? Will it grow in full shade or is it growing in the forest where the sun peaks through part of the day? If it will grow in full shade, what is the best way to transplant and cultivate it to spread? Thanks!
