Spotted this while walking the dogs in Austell. Short plant with one fruit the size of a small lemon.

passiflora, for sure, but where I am in the northeast, we buy them as houseplants so it’s interesting to remember that they are aggressive outdoor plants for you!

That’s a maypop, the fruit of the Passiflora incarnata, Passion Flower vine. Edible when ripe, which that one pictured is not. When the skin gets thin and wrinkly and the maypop comes easily off the vine, you can split it and suck the pulp off the seeds. Passiflora incarnata is a lovely, but very aggressive, vine common to the southeast, producing many lovely purple flowers that are attractive to bumblebees who get drunk on the nectar. The Gulf Fritillary butterfly caterpillars eat the leaves.
