Notes:
This tree? has no leaves until about half way up the trunk, and then that bloom at the top of it. The trunk itself has thorns on it.

Hercules club is one of the common names for this plant, but the name is best applied to the unrelated Zanthoxylum clava-herculis (which has ‘Hercules club’ as its botanical species name). Aralia spinosa, commonly known also as Devil’s Walkingstick is the species in the picture, I think.
