Notes:
Including one from the front yard and one from the back in case the issue is related. The small front yard tree has a curly trunk and lacy leaves. It bloomed beautifully like usual in the spring. Seems like almost overnight it went brown all over. It’s been like this for a couple weeks. Snipped off the end of a branch today and it’s green inside. Backyard maple is large with a fuller leaf. Leaves have been slowly and steadily, from the bottom up, turning brown and curling up. Any suggestions??

I had a Japanese Maple and we regularly pruned it by cutting the branches hard. It loved the attention every other year. Your issue can be caused by several factors being in GA. Overall Japanese Maples does well but can run into Fungus issues. Depending on the age of your trees, which look pretty mature, I would look at this as your cause. From year to year, the tree with show signs that will help you identify the issue. Look into Anthracnose or Verticillium wilt as your main culprits. Remove all debris around your trees to eliminate the spread. It could also be other items, links below may help. http://www.ct.gov/caes/lib/caes/documents/publications/fact_sheets/plant_pathology_and_ecology/common_diseases_of_maples.pdf http://japanesemaplelovers.com/japanese-maple-diseases/
