This critter was found in my garden. At first glance it looked like a leaf. The bat wings attached to the spine are hinged in the middle.

mating moths is the right answer! UGA entomologist Dan Suiter showed it to his colleague Lisa Ames. She think’s they’re mating hawk moths (Sphingidae species). If so, they’re not eating anything. The larvae (caterpillars) might, but adults consume only nectar from flowers

Appears to be two moths mating. Very similar to the appearance of a pair of Sphinx moths or another species.
