Notes:
For the past 9 years our Bermuda grass has been fine then all of a sudden this appears. I have searched all over the internet (including your site) and didn’t find an answer. The only thing we are aware of is that there are several tree roots in the yard which have begun to make sink holes all over – 6 or 8. Could this be a fungus related to these old tree roots? If so, what do we do? Thank you so much.

No worries here! Just a mild frost that causes only part of the lawn to go to sleep for the winter. The next hard frost will turn the rest of brown until Spring.
