Notes:
Plant stands 5 1/2 feet tall, lovely pale yellow blooms open each morning, blooming for the past few months, spiny stem/trunk. There are what appear to be seed pods at the top.

Thanks for the quick reply! Looks like you nailed it! It is a volunteer in the garden so have no idea who donated the seeds. The colors are difficult to capture with a camera.
