Verbena rigida http://www.namethatplant.net/plantdetail.shtml?plant=1598 Stiff verbena makes a dynamite lawn flower, but it grows too well for the flower bed… Unless you’re looking for a xeriscape plant that can completely fill a bed.

The picture was taken two years ago, of a pinched-off stem I brought back from a jog and set in water. It is pretty close up – the container is the cap of a mouthwash bottle (only about 1″ high). Don’t know if the colony is still in blossom this year – it was a week or two ago. Plant grows to about 8-12″. All leaves narrowly lanceolate, with jagged edges.
