Notes:
I found this wildflower growing on our property near Hiawassee in the North Georgia Mountains. There was only one flower and I’ve never seen another like it. I researched several books and couldn’t find it.

Edit: The problem is that there is only the single picture posted. With additional pictures of the foliage, we might decide that it actually was phlox. There are a number of wild phloxes in the area, but I haven’t seen wild dianthus…

looks like sweet William (dianthus barbatus) to me… Not even in the same family as phlox.
