Notes:
This is growing on the hill in my backyard. It seems to grow by attaching itself to a tree. It’s thorny stem with a single leave? If you know hat it is, any idea how to get rid of it? Thanks in advance

Some types of smilax have edible young leaves and shoots and the roots can be used to make a tea or a thickening agent. But unless you can verify that it’s Smilax rotundifolia I would not eat any of it. It’s really a PITA to kill though. Good luck! I have several in my yard that I’m currently working on…

Looks like one of the many types of Smilax. If you figure out how to get rid of it, let us know. I pull mine up constantly and it always comes right back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smilax
