Notes:
We have had this plant for 12 or 13 years it recently contracted a fungus but is doing well now. I would like to prune it so that is is not so leggy.

That is a Schefflera or umbrella tree. It has not been pruned, which is why it got so leggy. This looks to be a dwarf version. They love being potbound and are the perfect indoor tree. I’ve had a couple of these for DECADES. I keep them pruned so they are bushy rather than like this one. I also chuck ’em out on the front porch in the summer. They love it. If you want to make it more full and shorter, start by pruning just one or maybe two of the tall parts all the way down. Let it recover for 6 mo to a year then prune down the rest. These are hardy little trees. As for the fungus, repot it with fresh soil in a new pot that’s about an inch or two bigger. I’d prune then repot. It’ll grow like mad. 🙂
