Notes:
The flower and leaf are from an approx. 8 foot shrub growing in a sheltered courtyard with dappled sunlight by my work place. I began my job in Nov. 2012 and the leaves are still intact and it blooms continuously! I was told it’s a hibiscus but have not seen this variety and would love to get a cutting. What’s unusual about is that the flowers hang downward and never open up. I brought the flower and leaf home in a damp paper towel but they start to wilt quickly.

If the flower never opens more than that, it’s probably a Malvaviscus. You can see an image of the common Malvaviscus arboreus on my website at http://www.plantshots.com/img14291.htm.

Stone I did a little reading on the Sleeping Hibiscus. That seems like a pretty good common name for this mystery!

Looks what is called a Flowering Maple. Some of them have very lobed leves, but some look like the one pictured. Apparently they cut very easily – my neighbor has a ton and they are stunning.

It is a variety of hibiscus possibly the common Rose mallow. This link may help http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/gardens-gardening/your-garden/plant-finder/plant-details/kc/b557/hibiscus-rosa-sinensis.aspx In a sheltered courtyard I suspect the problem could be as simple as lack of water. There could be other problems as well http://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/hibiscus/hibiscus-flowers-hibiscus-blossoms-falling-off-plant.htm
