One thing aspidistra doesn’t like is sun, but it looks like yours is in deep shade. You can cut individual brown leaves out to keep things neat, but that’s all you need to do.

1) hydrangea 2)aspidistra (aka cast iron plant) I wouldn’t do anything to either of them. The variegated hydrangea blooms in the Spring. You can cut limbs off in the autumn for propagation, but if you cut them back, they don’t bloom. Propagation is easy, plant limb cuttings in ordinary garden soil in the Autumn, and ignore. You will have new bushes in the Spring. The aspidistra blooms in winter, like Feb or March, but you’ll never see them, as they will be at the base of the plant. Some people cut out the brown leaves, but aspidistra doesn’t like attention. I experimented with shearing all the leaves, and lost most of the patch…
