Notes:
This ubiquitous little guy is a survivor. We actually want to try to plant some of this on a hill that gets full sun and on which nothing survives. This little weed seems hardy enough to fit the bill, but we don’t know what it is. Thank you.

Annual lespedeza. Bottom foto looks a little like spurge but, spurge has two leaves at the end of a stem. Confirm with the milk test. Break the tip of the stem off. Spurge has a milky sap.

Looks like a lespadeza. Too bad that you pulled it before it bloomed, it would have provided you with seed. Apparently there are native varieties and imported types.
