Notes:
This multi-trunked shrub is about 8 feet tall and until the berries turned red, rather plain. The leaves reach a maximum of 4 inches. Right next to it is another very similar shrub but the leaves only reach about 3 inches. They’re on the bank of a year-round creek. Native? The original owner of our property (1.4 acres) planted numerous natives not endemic to the area, but also many very nice hybrids/cultivars.

Could this be red choke cherry? http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/factsheets/native/aronia_arbutifolia.html http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=PHPY4&photoID=arar7_003_ahp.tif
