This spring my husband threw a bunch of perennial seeds into our flowerbed in the back yard. Plants from last year came up (apparently they too are perennial plants) I think they’re from the Vinca Family. Any way, these two plants came up. I think they are perennial flowers and my husband says they’re weeds. If they are a weed, why haven’t more of them came up? We don’t ‘weed’ the flower bed because we mulch. Someone, please tell me what they are.

The middle plant looks like cosmos, an annual. The bottom plant looks like a green-leaf perilla, also an annual. The perilla is probably a weed, unless you can figure out how to season your cooking with it…. It is used in oriental cuisines.
