Oak Trees – Cutting Limbs
Q: I have two massive oak trees that are near my house. They are losing limbs at the tops. I’d rather not have them cut down but I saw a house that had topped all their huge old oaks so there wasn’t a limb on their forty-foot trunks. Is this an option for me?
A: It would be insane to cut all the limbs off of an oak tree unless it was being totally removed. Only weak regrowth would result and the tree would be dead in a year. A tree company will often remove all the limbs before dropping an entire trunk. Perhaps that’s what you saw. You really need to have a consulting arborist come out and look at your trees.
