Meyer Lemon – Hand Pollination
Q: I had a dozen lemons the first summer I had this tree. Last year in winter it had a few blooms every few days but they fell off quickly and were small. It also lost a lot of leaves. Last summer it grew a little but bore no fruit. I fertilized about once a month. The blossoms are blooming now and they are larger than last winter.
A: It probably needs your help with pollination. Although Meyer lemon has perfect flowers, with no wind or insects indoors pollination is erratic.
Use a cotton swab or small brush to transfer yellow pollen to the “bulby” stalk in the middle of each flower. Do this every few days while the plant is indoors. Pollination will likely occur and you’ll start seeing little fruit form.
