Grafted Pear – Bears Tiny Fruit
Q: I have a pear tree that has 3 varieties grafted on it. A few branches produce pear fruit, but this year most of the branches have these little balls. What’s going on?
A: The limbs with little fruits are coming from the wild callery pear rootstock onto which the fruiting pear limbs were grafted. Cut off all limbs that bear these little fruits. If any of the remaining limbs are those that produce edible fruit, they will grow to take the place of the callery pear limbs.
Keep a sharp eye on the situation; remove any more emerging callery limbs immediately.
