Walkingstick Kale – Identification
Q: We saw an amazing garden in France at a chateau. Could you tell me what is the tall plant with large leaves?
A: Vegetable expert Daryl Pulis (www.mrsgreenthumb.com) says it’s walking stick kale, Brassica oleracea var. longata, also known as Jersey Cabbage or Walking Stick Cabbage. You grow it from seed planted in March. As it gets tall, leaves can be stripped from the stalk and eaten as you would any kale or cabbage.
