Fox – Afflicted With Mange
Q: We saw this awful animal in our back yard. Do you think it could be a small chupacabra that kills neighborhood animals?
A: The chupacabra (goat sucker) is a mythical animal that is said to roam the Southwest. A news article reports: “ In July 2010, an animal was killed and reported to be a chupacabra, but found to be a coyote with a severe parasite infection. In October of that year, University of Michigan scientists theorized that parasite-riddled coyotes (specifically the parasites responsible for scabies and mange) were likely the basis for the chupacabra legend.”
Your animal is a mangy fox. Note the thin, ragged fur and the fact that he stops to scratch himself in the second video.
Mange is easy to treat on domestic animals but this poor creature will just have to suffer.
