Snake Plant – Blooming
Q: I have several pots of snake plant. Some are at least 20 years old. Three pots bloomed this year. That’s never happened before but I like the result.
A: Many succulent plants bloom best when their roots are crowded. I’m not sure why this is to their advantage but I’ve received pictures of jade plant, bird-of-paradise, and others that grew for several years before finally putting out blooms.
There are dozens of species of sansevieria. Most have very fragrant flowers, which seems to point to them being moth-pollinated. As you’ve probably noticed, the flowers seldom set seed.
