Q: I saw a weird thing while walking in the woods in Louisville, KY . It was growing out of a crawdad hole. Do you have any idea as to what this is?
A: It’s a frost flower. Some believe it only occurs when associated with plant stems that freeze at night but I have seen them coming from plowed earth in a garden.
